Aan deze kant van de rivier / On this side of the river

Alessandra Selmi 2025 West Europe
It's only a small plot of land, triangular in shape and bordered by the Adda River. But in 1877, it represented the future for Cristoforo Crespi. The son of a weaver, he wanted to build a modern cotton factory there, and above all, a village for workers unlike any Italy had ever seen: with a church, a school, and comfortable housing. Cristoforo would risk everything to realize this dream: his money, his reputation, and even his relationship with his brother. Young Emilia's life changes the day she moves to her new village. She is the daughter of one of the Crespis' most loyal workers. Over the years, her story will become inextricably linked to that of the other inhabitants, with whom she will experience the small and large events of history. Fate will also cross her path with that of heir Silvio Crespi. Despite the social divide between them, a special bond develops. Emilia will be Silvio's support when the Crespis—perhaps too rich, too proud, too arrogant—are at risk of losing everything.
