Apollon: una fabbrica occupata / Apollon: An Occupied Factory

A docu-fiction created through collaboration between a group of intellectuals coordinated by director Ugo Gregoretti and the workers who occupied the Apollon printing factory on Via Tiburtina in Rome. The film reconstructs the long occupation, which began on 4 June 1967 and ended in December 1968. The workers play themselves as well as police, strikebreakers and other characters, and are co-authors of the film. It is not simply a chronicle: it analyses factory life, the workers’ first strikes, their struggle against a paternalistic employer, the creation of an internal consumer co-operative, and the conquest of practical tools of struggle and democratic spaces. The narration is provided by Gian Maria Volonté. The film was digitally restored in 2002.
