Apuntes

Ariel Zúñiga 1974 Mexico
The film is set around a harsh taxi-drivers’ strike in Mexico City, inspired by the real events of 1950. The main figures are Quintanilla, a corrupt union leader, and Eduardo, an opposition activist who tries to organize the taxi drivers legally and fight for justice. Zúñiga uses the conflict to explore the problem of “false consciousness” — how workers can be manipulated by government-controlled union leaders and by the state, which turns the union into a tool of power rather than protection.
