Cananea

The film is based on real events that occurred just before the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1917. It follows the story of the mining magnate Colonel Gringo William Green, his profitable business, and his shady dealings with local authorities, including President Porfirio Díaz. Green exploits Mexican workers mercilessly, paying them ten times less than their counterparts in the United States. The film portrays the harsh realities of economic inequality and class struggle, culminating in a typical Latin American finale for that era — anarchist agitation among the miners at the Cananea mine, a large-scale strike, and its brutal suppression by the authorities. The narrative exposes the exploitation of the working class under the corrupt government and capitalist elite, offering a stark critique of the exploitation that fueled the revolution.
