Comradeship

G. W. Pabst 1931 France, Germany
After the end of World War I, due to the new border, a German mine was divided between France and Germany. One day, an accident occurs on the French side. German miners organize a volunteer rescue team and head to assist their French comrades. Meanwhile, three German miners, who were not treated very friendly on the French side the day before, begin their own rescue operation. People who had recently fought against each other become comrades. The film is based on events at the French "Courrières" mine, where, after the largest mining disaster in Europe, German rescuers from Westphalia came to help the French miners.
