"Corso d'Italia 25" is the Roman address of the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour). Relying on a first-person narrative, combining the fluidity of a novel with the rigor of an essay, the book explains what the Italian union has been in recent decades and how much it has contributed, despite bitter internal and external debates, to improving social and working conditions. The author focuses on some of the most significant events from the 1990s onward, revealing previously unseen aspects of the period's key figures: from Luciano Lama to Bruno Trentin, Carniti, Benvenuto, and Cofferati, as well as Ciampi, Napolitano, Amato, Craxi, D'Alema, and many others. This account also provides a starting point for a disconcerting comparison with current events: today, everything has changed, politics is far removed from the country's social problems, inequalities are growing even in the workplace, and unions are struggling to collaborate. But Corso Italia 25 also proposes a possible new path for concerted action to implement the necessary environmental, economic, and social sustainability policies.
