In the updated fifth edition of this standard work, the basic structure remains unchanged: the first part develops the foundations of workplace, collective bargaining, and social policy and explains the protective and formative role of trade unions, including the fundamental contradiction between capital and labor, the principles of solidarity, the principle of the unified trade union, and membership recruitment. The second part addresses practical trade union work in the workplace, focusing on the different conditions ranging from small businesses to global corporations, with numerous practical tips highlighting key fields of action.
