Huelgas laborales y revitalización sindical en Chile / Labor strikes and union revitalization in Chile

As in many countries around the world, unions in Chile have faced an unfavorable political and economic environment. Despite this, since the mid-2000s, the Chilean labor movement has been experiencing an emerging and heterogeneous revitalization process—that is, a diverse, incomplete, and unconsolidated one. As a result, the capacity for union mobilization has grown steadily in recent decades. However, this has not necessarily translated into greater power for unions to influence the political system. Based on data collected by the Labor Strike Observatory (OHL/COES-UAH), this book analyzes the various dynamics associated with this process of union revitalization. It examines how strike activity has changed in recent decades, what factors explain this variation, and the consequences of the increase in strike activity in the country.
