Instruire, manifester, démissionner / To Instruct, to Protest, to Resign: A Brief Sociology of the OFPRA on Strike

Between October 2023 and February 2024, the French Office for Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) experienced an unprecedented period of strikes. Amidst the news surrounding the vote on the immigration law, the negotiations of the "asylum and immigration" pact in Brussels, and the publication of the new "performance objective report," protection officers gathered in front of the Fontenay-sous-Bois offices to voice their opposition. In light of this historic mobilization, the book reveals the tensions experienced by the institution's staff, caught between progressive aspirations and a cold, impersonal administrative reality. This initial research paper presents the strikes at the office as the final symptom of a profound malaise. A comparison with the Belgian and German counterparts of the OFPRA reveals the specific characteristics of the French model and its staff.
