La huelga más larga / The longest strike
April 12, 2025, marked the 45th anniversary of the longest strike in the recent history of the Spanish labor movement. The commemoration will take place with the presentation in Cerezo del Río Tirón (Burgos) of the book documenting this mobilization, written by Burgos-born journalist Manuel González, former president of the El País works council, and published by Atrapasueños in collaboration with the Jesús Pereda Foundation of the CCOO of Castile and León. “THE FUENTEOVEJUNA OF DEMOCRACY” With these words, Marcelino Camacho summarized the struggle of the Crimidesa workers. A town defending itself against a trap. After seven months on strike, in November 1980, the miners marched from Cerezo de Río Tirón to Madrid to force the company to sign an agreement without layoffs. There they received the affection and solidarity of 80,000 Madrid residents. Two months later, the Civil Guard shot and wounded worker Alberto Miguel Busto.
