Le joint français: 1972, une usine en grève / The French Joint 1972, a factory on strike

"Le Joint Français," a subsidiary of CGE, was originally a factory located in Bezons in the Val d'Oise region. It relocated to Saint-Brieuc in 1962. Every effort was made to facilitate its establishment, but the subsidiary failed to deliver on its promises: working conditions were difficult and wages were far below those in Bezons. Faced with CGE's silence, the workers voted for a general strike in April 1972. This movement, initially very localized, spread throughout the Brittany region, which, as the weeks of conflict unfolded, asserted its identity and culture. This story is the history of a social movement whose surge of solidarity marked the history of social demands.
