Naar een nieuwe arbeidersbeweging / Towards a New Labor Movement

Marxist theory has been written off, declared dead, and consigned to the dustbin of history. All social democratic parties, all variations of contemporary social popular parties (such as the Labour Party (PvdA), GreenLeft (GroenLinks), and Socialist Party (SP)), have become integrated into modern society and are an inseparable part of it. The more radical variants of social democracy, the Leninist, Trotskyist, and Maoist parties, have shrunk. As a result, the classical labor movement has become a toothless lobby group. The former Soviet Union has imploded and remains only as a brutally oppressive and corrupt dictatorship, without any quasi-socialist phrases. A similar development is taking place in the People's Republic of China, for now with quasi-socialist phrases. In the Western world, oligarchs are increasingly shaping society, with a languishing democracy, to their own ends.Class antagonisms, between haves and have-nots, and the growing gap between capital and labor, have not disappeared. Nor has the global, ever-emerging and expanding resistance to unbearable living conditions, to the outright threat to all life on earth. No longer led and constrained by parties, unions, and other "vanguards," but independent, based on their own initiative and action, a movement of workers and other oppressed groups themselves. All of this cries out for a different perspective on existing social relations than the empty talk we're bombarded with daily. This book compiles a number of texts by representatives of the once-famous DUTCH MARXIST SCHOOL, each offering a unique perspective on these issues. Old texts, but still very much alive.
