Postales / “Postcards”: The stories of postal workers made into a book of short stories

In a context of mass layoffs and worsening working and wage conditions, postal workers publish a literary work to reclaim their culture, their stories, and experiences, and to resist, through narrative, the constant attacks they suffer from the far-right government of Javier Milei. Amid the threat of privatization of the National Postal Service and a wave of layoffs, a group of postal workers decided that the response was struggle and organization, and also developing a cultural project, filling pages with stories, narratives, and experiences. Thus was born “Postcards,” a book of short stories published by La Librera, a work that emerges from the cultural trenches of the working class to challenge the meaning of language in a context of the rise of the far right. The authors—Olga Norambuena, Nicolás Fernández Liendro, Iván Altamirano, Piru Plank, Almas Gemelas, and Ernesto Zippo—are postal workers who, fed up with their situation and the alienating context, transformed their daily lives, their struggles, and their collective yearning into a literary project. The book, conceived in 2024, is the fruit of countless miles traveled, accumulated anecdotes, and the need to escape daily alienation through literature.
