In the 1980s, the Continental factory arrived in Ushuaia, driven by the Industrial Promotion Law, transforming the city with the arrival of thousands of workers. In the 1990s, economic liberalization led to its closure, leaving the workers without jobs or severance pay. Faced with a lack of response, they occupied the plant, but were violently evicted. The repression ended with the death of Víctor Choque, the first worker killed in the democratic era.
