The Gama Strike - A Victory For All Workers
In 2005 Turkish workers at the Gama company in Ireland went on strike over the non-payment of wages. With the active assistance of the Socialist Party, they won. This documentary is the story of how that victory was achieved, and the difficulties endured by the workers. It is a vital lesson in labour organising and winning for all workers.
The Turkish-owned multinational construction giant GAMA had been employed by the Irish state to build roads and infrastructure. Assisted by the Socialist Party (Ireland), whose members first exposed the scandalous wages and conditions being paid by GAMA to its Turkish workers, they engaged in a bitter and hard fought battle, which eventually brought GAMA to heel.
