The Killing Floor

The era of World War I. A poor Black man from the South travels through the northern United States, hoping to find work in the slaughterhouses. After securing a job at one in Chicago, he becomes involved in the organized labor movement. He rises to become a prominent leader of African Americans in the union, though many, including his best friend, view him as a traitor.
