U taboru anarhista: Život Ivana Zeppa / In the Camp of the Anarchists: The Life of Ivan Zeppa

Far from anarchist circles and discussions with Swiss comrades, Ivan Zepp (1889–1967) spent his final years on the banks of the Drava River. Describing him as “the last anarchist in Osijek,” for the publicist and chronicler of the labor movement Lavoslav Kraus, Zepp represented an unusual kind of man after World War II. Zepp’s biography reveals a life in which migrations, strong political convictions, and tireless activist activity intertwine. From his youth, when he participated in anti-militarist actions across Europe as a tailor, to his old age spent in socialist Yugoslavia, Zepp remained true to his ideals – despite numerous challenges, he remained “in the anarchist camp.” This book, based on archival sources, personal records, and contemporary historiographical research, attempts to reconstruct Zepp’s biography as a starting point for an analysis of the ideological, social, and political forces that shaped the labor movement in Europe in the first half of the 20th century. Pointing to the importance of individual destinies in understanding complex historical structures, the book offers insight into the dynamics of anarchist activism in the early 20th century. Zepp's life, imbued with subversive activities, disappointments, and friendships with prominent activists, is both a personal drama and a mirror of a turbulent time.
