Wages and Love / Lohn und Liebe

This film is about the struggles women face, and how they are often even more difficult than those of men. The events take place at a telephone factory in Berlin, where the workforce is made up of women and the managers are men (how recognizable!). Rosvita works on the assembly line and hopes to solve her problems by starting a romantic affair with her boss. However, the romance ends, and soon the company begins to implement cost-cutting measures. Overcome by class anger, Rosvita becomes involved in the fight to preserve wages. It is symbolic that shortly after the film's first screening, a major strike by the Public Services, Transport, and Communications Workers' Union began.
