A Story of Postal Worker Dismissals: The April 28 Disciplinary Measures and Postal Workplaces / 郵政クビ切り物語

Postal workers are crying! They are angry!

They joined the struggle of the Zentei postal workers’ union because they wanted to improve their workplace. They were dismissed for it. They were in their twenties. Later, their union abandoned them. Yet some postal workers have continued fighting for twenty-five years, insisting that what is wrong is wrong.

Postal workplaces are now deteriorating: forced transfers, deaths from overwork, overnight shifts, and a growing number of non-regular workers. What lies behind postal privatization? The reality that the mass media do not report is finally revealed.

The end and the beginning of trade unions

The twenty-five-year history of the dismissed postal workers also traces the process through which Zentei, a major postwar union, descended into labor-management collaboration. Why do unions go wrong? Is there a path to renewal? Another theme of this film is “the end and the beginning of trade unions.”
