Urban Jörén, a well-known photographer, has worked for several years in Stockholm’s ports to make ends meet. He is now publishing a photo book titled “Det ligger ett grått dis” (There Is a Gray Haze), which also includes his own poetry inspired by his daily work.
At noon, the sun shines white over the pier. The dust dances like gold dust. We drink water from plastic bottles. We direct the crane operators sitting 300 meters away.
Everything must be just right—height, numbers, order. There’s no poetry here—and yet, it’s nothing but poetry. That’s how the world is held together. Not by words, but by precision. …………………………………………………………. But it can be dangerous, too. The slightest mistake can bring death along for the ride. It was a close call once in Bay 18. I fell but got caught on the way down—on the floor where the lashing bars are kept.
